Why this matters now
CUSMA triennial review, July 1, 2026
The first CUSMA joint review is triggered on July 1, 2026. Any party can request changes to rules of origin, market access commitments, or sector-specific provisions. Importers who depend on CUSMA preferential treatment need to understand their exposure before the review begins.
Surtax + CUSMA interaction
Products that qualify for CUSMA treatment are typically exempt from Canadian surtax orders. If your products qualify, CUSMA doesn't just save you the duty differential, it can save you the 25% surtax too. Losing CUSMA eligibility means both costs hit at once.
What we calculate
- MFN duty rate + applicable surtaxes (without CUSMA)
- CUSMA preferential duty rate (with CUSMA)
- Annual savings from CUSMA treatment
- Exposure if preferential treatment is lost
Data sourcing
- Official Canadian Customs Tariff rates
- Active surtax orders from Canada Gazette
- CUSMA preferential rates by HS code
- Every result includes dataset versions used
