Account Setup
Creating Your Account
- Go to tarifftrail.ca and click Start Free.
- Enter your email address and choose a password (minimum 8 characters).
- Enter your organization name -- use your company's legal name.
- Check the consent box to receive compliance updates (required under CASL).
- Click Sign Up.
You start on the Free plan with 3 products, 10 tariff lookups per month, and access to the surtax checker. No credit card is required.
Logging In
- Go to tarifftrail.ca/auth.
- Enter your email and password.
- Click Sign In.
You will be redirected to your Dashboard.
Navigating the Application
The sidebar on the left organizes the application into sections:

The top bar shows your organization name, a surtax risk indicator (if any products are affected), an alert bell with unread count, and your account menu.
Dashboard Overview
The Dashboard provides a compliance summary of your import portfolio with four KPI cards:
| Card | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Total Products | Number of products in your portfolio |
| Surtax Affected | How many products are subject to an active surtax order |
| Portfolio Value | Total annual import value across all products (CAD) |
| Est. Annual Duty | Estimated MFN duty + surtax for the portfolio |
If you have unread alerts, the most recent alert appears as a banner at the top of the page.
Next Steps
Once your account is set up, add your first product to start checking surtax exposure.
